The Angel Ramos Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose primary goals are to eliminate isolation by:

  1. Helping deaf and hard of hearing children be academically successful;
  2. Helping family members learn to communicate effectively with the deaf or hard of hearing child in their family.
  3. Helping hearing children learn sign language to communicate with their deaf and hard of hearing peers.
  4. Helping parents and educators meet the needs of their deaf, hard of hearing, and hearing students.
  5. Providing scholarships for deaf and hard of hearing individuals to attend post secondary educational institutions.
  6. Educating everyone we touch through the Angel Ramos Foundation about the challenges faced by deaf and hard of hearing people and how successful individuals have overcome these obstacles.
  7. Assisting with providing assistive devices to those who cannot afford them. (i.e. hearing aids, phone equiptment, etc.)
  8. Assisting with job placement for deaf and hard of hearing individuals with potential employers who network with and support the Angel Ramos Foundation.

The Angel Ramos Foundation launched an exciting educational program called OptiSchool. This program will:

  1. Bring weekly linguistic lessons (in sign language) to the homes and schools of deaf and hard of hearing children at the kindergarten grade that will help them read at grade level;
  2. These same lessons can be used by hearing kindergarten children to learn sign language and communicate with their deaf and hard of hearing peers;
  3. These lessons will be FREE and available via the internet;
  4. These lessons will be accessible in homes, schools and public libraries.
  5. A Spanish version will debut in 2008.

The Foundation will also be providing weekly instructional lessons for kindergarten children on the use of Manipulative Visual Language, an educational tool that helps children "SEE" the English language. This is an excellent tool for not only deaf and hard of hearing children, but also ESL (English as a Second Language) students and students with special needs.

Michael Clair, President of Western States College, had this to say about our programs:

"Dr. Ramos has a clear and defined vision that will no doubt make this project happen in a big way. The best part of the program is that it will be made available for free to those who cannot afford to attend a classroom or do not have the access to such a program. This is truly a humanitarian cause that will leave the world a better place for deaf [and hard of hearing] people in our communities.”

As with any humanitarian cause, we can only do as much as finances will allow. We need your financial assistance to make the work of the Angel Ramos Foundation a success. Please support our goals by making a tax-deductible donation to the Angel Ramos Foundation today.

Thank you for your interest in our work to improve the lives of those living in "the silent world". Now, for your first challenge, learn to fingespell your name. We look forward to our continuing relationship.
